WEEK 6
SCRIPTURE: Leviticus 8-10
THEME: RESPECTING GOD'S WORD
MEMORY VERSE: Jeremiah l5:16

With the coming of a new year, our intentions are so good to keep our promises to ourselves but with the passage of time the resolutions we made begin to weaken and waver especially when it comes to reading the book of Leviticus and talking about it to our family.

This week's reading covers the time when God ordained His priesthood and then destroyed half of it. This teaches us at least two lessons. First, God tells us very clearly how we are to approach Him, which is to say, worship Him. Aaron was told what to wear, where to go, what to do and everything else that God expected of him. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and He has told us how to worship Him. We are not permitted to approach the Father any which way we want which leads into the second lesson --how serious God takes His worship.

Nadab and Abihu were told to do certain things and they failed to do those. However, they did do other things which God had not told them to do. But this is not a good excuse. God tells us one way and that means we can't do it any other way. This principle of obedience is so important that God destroyed half of His new priesthood to drive home this point to all His children who read His word.

No matter what part of God's word you read it has something to teach us and whether we understand it or not; agree with it or not, we need to respect God's word and be obedient.

Activity Idea

Ask your family how we are to worship God today. Ask them how their friends worship God and ask if that way is acceptable to God. Finally, ask them how they might show respect for God's word today. May we all have the attitude that Jeremiah expresses in our memory verse.
